Who is the Village School Project?

The Village School Project is a volunteer run organisation working with communities to establish sustainable educational infrastructure and support. We achieve this by providing project management and fundraising support, through building strong partnerships with both indigenous and international organisations, and by advocating at all levels for primary education. Our programs aim to empower the community to determine their own educational outcomes, with the ultimate aim of bringing an end to the cycle of extreme poverty for individuals, families and communities. Our current focus is working with the Waanki Gopu village school which is located in the Oromia Region of East Africa.

Does the Village School Project partner with other organisations?
One of the four tiers of our development model is partnerships. We aim to establish and build strong partnerships, which supports our participatory and collaborative approach to development. We partner with communities, indigenous groups, individuals and international organisations within Australia and overseas. To date these have included KETO, Engineers Without Borders and Architects Without Frontiers.

Who Is KETO?
Our current projects in the village of Waanki Gopo are supported through our close relationships with our local partner KETO. KETO is an organisation comprised of graduates from universities and colleges throughout Ethiopia. Their vision is to see people live improved and competitive lives psychologically, economically and socially, and like The Village School Project, KETO is run by volunteers. Our relationship with KETO allows us to build strong ties in-country with individuals and communities.
